Padvalkai Sihi-is sweet curry which can be served with rice and chapathi. The interesting part of this dish is that even the seeds of this vegetable can be used to prepare tambli.

Tempering

Wash the Padvalkai (Also called patakil).
Cut the ends of the padvalkai and silt in between.

Remove the seeds. Do not discard the seeds. Seeds can be used to prepare padvalkai seeds tambli.

Cut the padvalkai into small cubes.

Add 3 cups of water to a vessel and add the chopped vegetables.

Add 2 tbsp of green gram dal/hesaru bele. Cover and keep for boiling for 10-12 minutes on medium flame until the vegetable is cooked.

Once the vegetable is cooked, add 2-3 green chillies slit, 1/4 cup of jaggery, and salt as per taste.

Mix well and let it boil for 2-3 minutes.

In a mixer, add 1 cup of fresh grated coconut and water. Grind the mixture to a fine paste.

Add the above-ground coconut mixture to cooked vegetables. Let it boil for 2-3 minutes.

Tempering

Heat 1 tsp of ghee in a pan.

Add 1tsp of mustard seeds. Once mustard seeds splutter, add 1tsp of urad dal, dried red chillies, and curry leaves. Suate this till urad dal turns brown.

Add this tempering to the curry.

Padvalkai sihi is ready to serve with rice/Chapathi/Dosa!!!
